Michael Elwell joined the firm in 1987 and has been a partner since 1993. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan and graduated with high distinction in 1981. He graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1985. Mike served as a Law Clerk for judges of the New Hampshire Superior Court from 1985-1986.
Mike’s practice concentrates in the areas of Labor and Employment Law, School Law and Municipal Law. He has negotiated, mediated and conducted fact-finding on behalf of employers for more than 400 collective bargaining agreements. Mike has represented employers in hundreds of labor grievance proceedings, arbitrations, unfair labor practice proceedings, employee discharge cases, wage claims, and employment discrimination cases. He drafts employment contracts, conducts training sessions for employees and board members, and serves as counsel to annual and special school district and town meetings.
Mike frequently writes and speaks on a full range of Labor and Employment Law topics, including teacher non-renewal and dismissal, the Affordable Care Act, and numerous collective bargaining issues. He is co-author, with Robert Leslie, of the New Hampshire Bar Journal article, Practice and Procedure Before the Public Employee Labor Relations Board.
Mike is a member of the New Hampshire, Maine, Wisconsin and American Bar Associations, as well as the Council of School Attorneys.
